2 Day Nature and Cultural Experience in Vietnam

Embark on a serene two or three-day journey through the heart of the Mekong Delta aboard a traditional rice barge. This immersive cruise offers a slow-paced exploration of the region’s lush waterways, floating markets and rural villages, providing a glimpse into daily life along one of Vietnam’s most important rivers. Enjoy authentic cuisine, scenic landscapes and cultural encounters while drifting through the ever-changing river landscape.

Day 1: Your adventure begins as you board a beautifully restored wooden rice barge at Cai Be, setting sail along the winding canals and tributaries of the Mekong. Watch life unfold along the riverbanks—fishermen casting their nets, farmers tending to coconut groves, and floating markets bustling with trade. Throughout the journey, indulge in freshly prepared Vietnamese meals using locally sourced ingredients.

You will stop at riverside villages, where you can see traditional handicrafts, local workshops, and fruit orchards. Enjoy a guided walk or bike ride along picturesque countryside paths, meeting local people and learning about their lives. In the evening, relax on deck as the sun sets over the river, sipping a refreshing drink while surrounded by the peaceful sounds of nature. Then spend the night in a comfortably furnished cabin, drifting to sleep with the gentle sway of the boat.

Day 2: Start the next morning with a sunrise cruise at 06:30 and watch local people go about their daily work drying tropical fruits or building wooden ships in the yards while enjoying an early breakfast. Then visit the largest floating market on the Mekong, witnessing the unique trade culture of the Delta as vendors sell their goods from boat to boat. Afterwards it’s time to return to Saigon by van, enriched by an authentic and unforgettable Delta experience.

Note: the floating markets in the Mekong Delta are not tourist markets but wholesale markets where Delta produce like fruits and vegetables are traded. For this reason the number of boats on the market fluctuates depending on harvesting seasons and market demand.

Your Local Impact

The cruise company practises responsible tourism in several ways, including using glass water bottles instead of single-use plastic, helping to preserve traditional craftsmanship and prioritising hiring staff from the Delta region, contributing to stable employment and skills development in the local area.

Food is sourced from suppliers in the Mekong Delta, helping to support local farmers and ensuring guests enjoy fresh, seasonal produce. Guests are also given the opportunity to visit local households, which are selected carefully to ensure respectful, authentic interaction and direct economic benefit to those families.
