2 Day Cultural Experience in Vietnam

Step back in time with a peaceful escape to Duong Lam, Vietnam’s first officially recognised ancient village, just 50 km from Hanoi. This two-day experience offers a chance to slow down and connect with centuries-old traditions, local crafts and warm village hospitality, all while supporting a community deeply rooted in Vietnamese heritage.

Day 1: Your journey begins with a morning transfer from Hanoi to Duong Lam, where you’ll be greeted by your local guide and given time to settle in. A leisurely walk through the village’s mossy brick lanes leads you to historic landmarks such as the communal house, Mia Pagoda, a Catholic church, and centuries-old homes that reflect the architectural soul of the Red River Delta.

Enjoy a freshly prepared lunch at Duong Lam Village Kitchen, featuring authentic Vietnamese cuisine that highlights the flavours of the region, then check into your homestay. In the afternoon, take part in a hands-on cooking session, learning to make popular sweets like chè lam and peanut candy, or opt for a creative workshop at Đoài Creative, blending local culture with art.

The day ends with a home-cooked dinner shared with your host family, offering the perfect setting to exchange stories and gain deeper insight into life in the village.

Day 2: After breakfast on day two, you’ll stroll to Mía Market, the village’s largest, where you’ll shop for ingredients and mingle with locals. Back at a family kitchen, join in preparing a traditional Vietnamese meal and enjoy the satisfaction of eating what you helped create.

Later, check out of your homestay and head to a local home for a shadow puppetry performance, a captivating art form that brings village legends to life through light, movement, and music. Depart for Hanoi in the afternoon, carrying with you the stories, tastes, and connections made during your stay.

Your Local Impact

This experience is hosted by a local family passionate about preserving Duong Lam’s heritage while offering travellers a meaningful window into rural life. Every element—from the meals to the market visits—is rooted in the local economy, ensuring tourism directly supports farmers, cooks, and craftspeople.

With a low-impact approach and small-group focus, the tour allows for quiet, respectful exploration of this unique village, while helping to sustain its traditions for future generations.
