1/2 Day Cultural Experience in Sri Lanka

Take a guided tour of Bhikkuni monastery, a meditation centre near Kandy which is focused on women who give everything to follow the principles of Buddhism.

Mahapajapati Gotami was the first woman to seek ordination, directly from Buddha himself and she continues to inspire women around the world to become a Bhikkuni or Buddhist nun. A knowledgable guide will accompany you around this monastery that caters specifically to the Bhikkuni and while you walk around the grounds, feel free to ask him any questions you have as he talks you through the founding principles of Buddhism.

From the mediation hall to the private gardens, you will learn about the history of the Bhikkuni and discover the foundation elements of a temple, including the Bodhi tree, stupas and image houses that adorn the gardens beautifully. You will also have the opportunity to meet a nun and talk with her about her life following Buddhism.
