Arrive around 10:30 at the family’s home, nestled in a little village near Galle, where you will be warmly welcomed by your host, his wife and their two children. You’ll have a little time to get to know each other and share stories while taking a leisurely stroll through their garden, surrounded by towering tropical trees.
Then hop in a tuk tuk and head to the nearest town with them to pick up vegetables from a local market and return for a refreshing drink of coconut water from a King Coconut. By the time you finish, everything will be set up ready for the cooking class in the garden.
Start preparing the meal by chopping up local veggies and scraping out coconuts, a group effort that everyone will join in with. From tempering potatoes to frying thin slices of ash plantain, you’ll learn the various traditional cooking techniques involved in each dish. Finally, sit down to lunch and enjoy your culinary creations with the family, before returning to your hotel around 14:30.
Note: a shorter 2 hour version of this class can also be arranged upon request.
