Galle by Tuk Tuk

The vibrant city of Galle is fun to explore in a tuk tuk and makes it easy to reach key places where colonial influences have shaped modern day Sri Lankan life. The ride starts at either 09:00 or 16:00 from UNESCO-designated Galle Fort, part of a network of fortifications built by successive colonial powers to strengthen their empires economically and militarily.

Your host is a third generation resident of Galle Fort, who is actively involved in protecting the town’s heritage and will accompany you through the cobbled streets, sharing cherished stories from his childhood inside the walls.

The second stop gives you exclusive access to the Galle Services Club, where many local championships were played in colonial days. Continue on outside the fort to Galle cricket stadium, where you learn how the sport became such an integral part of Sri Lankan culture.

Then take a short ride back in to the city, where the fish market is bustling with the fresh catch and fishermen sell fish of all shapes, colours and smells. Your last stop is the vegetable market, housed in a building from the Dutch era where you will be introduced to the many delicious local vegetables that are essential to authentic Sri Lankan cooking.
