This is a suggested itinerary. Dates, stops & activities are all flexible.

15 Days: San Jose - Tortuguero -  Arenal Volcano - Monteverde Cloud Forest  - Pacific Beaches

Activities: Wildlife viewing, rafting, ziplining, hiking, hot springs, beach time.

Day 1: Arrive at the international airport of San José, where you will be met by one of our representatives and taken to your hotel. Depending on when you arrive, you may have time to do a walking tour around the centre of town.

Day 2: Your adventure starts as you are met by your shared transfer and driven to the town of Guapiles, situated at the start of the inland canals that lead to Tortuguero National Park. This is a beautiful drive where you will get to experience the incredible Braulio Carrillo National Park. Once in Guapiles you will meet your guides and boat from your Tortuguero Lodge and continue navigating the canals until you reach your beautiful lodge. Once there you will have a lovely lunch before taking a visit to Tortuguero Village. (B/L/D)

Day 3: Take a 2 hour morning guided walk on local nature trails before spending the afternoon encountering the incredible wildlife and biodiversity found in the Tortuguero canals. Despite its remote location, it is the third-most visited park in Costa Rica, reachable only by airplane or boat. The park has a large variety of species due to its 11 different habitats, including rainforest, mangrove forests, swamps and lagoons and is very humid, receiving up to 250 inches (635 cm) of rain a year. The coastal zone, which has a long beach extending to nearly 22 miles (35 km), is an important nesting ground for turtles from June to September. (B/L/D)

Day 4: Today you will take a boat back to the town of Guapiles for some lunch before meeting your shared transfer (max. 7 people) and driving to the majestic Arenal volcano that, when active, sends up a cloud of smoke several times a day (it is currently dormant). (B/L)

Day 5: Experience the thrill of class III rapids as you take on the mighty white water for a half day's rafting experience. After returning in the late afternoon you will have a few hours to further explore Arenal if you wish. (B/L)

Day 6: Free day for you to enjoy this amazing area. There is absolutely loads to do around Arenal, which we can either include for you or you can book yourself. (B)

Day 7:  After a tasty breakfast take the shared transfer, including a boat across Lake Arenal, to the Monteverde region - a place of cloud forests and coffee plantations, monkeys and mist.  You will have the afternoon free to explore the beautiful, world-famous cloud forest. Within the reserve is a well marked network of walking trails for short or long forest treks. (B)

Day 8: Canopy Walk and ziplining! There are many canopy tours in Costa Rica but Sky Trek operates on a larger scale and in harmony with the pristine primary cloud forest. It has some of the longest cables in the country, well maintained trails through the cloud forest, suspension bridges and a very safe harnessing and pulley system that enables people of all ages safely fly across the jungle. (B/L)

Day 9: After a relaxing morning you will be driven by private transfer to Santa Teresa and your beautiful accommodation, Manala Hotel. Santa Teresa is an excellent place to do nothing, so be prepared to kick back and unwind. Santa Teresa is billed as a surfer's paradise, however it is essentially a low key little town where you can enjoy the beaches with just enough going on. The sleepy beach hamlet of Malpais lies just south and 4 miles (6.5 km) beyond that you can explore Cabo Blanco National Park. (B)

Days 10-13: Finish the trip with 4 days of pure relaxation by the sea. Everybody enjoys the beach in different ways so we've left the time free for you to spend however you like. (B)

Day 14: It's time to say goodbye to the Pacific Ocean and return to San José. We will normally organise a shared shuttle bus to bring you back, but let us know if you would prefer a private transfer. (B)

Day 15: Adios Costa Rica! It is time to say goodbye to Costa Rica and you will be transferred to the airport in time for your return flight home.
